Shift Your Fears
/“Curiosity will conquer fear even more than bravery will”, have you ever been in the process of expanding and doing something different but, In the same moment of the thought of expanding was present the feeling of fear sets in. You begin to have doubts and debating back and forth in your mind. The debate is based on whether it is the right choice or not, if it will work or will the result of acting despite the feeling of fear be a disaster. Why do we worry about the result before we even have the first idea of how to begin? how can we worry about the end results when today is all we have to work with because we have no clue what tomorrow holds. Lastly, I want to ask why are we afraid of what we do not know but continue to endure the abuse of some of the things we already know does not work for us? I asked these questions to share my experience with learning from an experience with my now one-year old daughter.
Friday afternoon after taking care of some important business I decided to stop in the park with my daughter and hang there for the afternoon, when we arrived I spread a blanket across the grass for me and her to sit and lay on. I removed both of our sandals and sat on the mat, she looked around and observed her surroundings for a little while with her head rested on my lap. Suddenly she got up and walked to the edge of the mat where she felt the grass on her toes, she looked down then proceeded to walk out further into the grass. Naturally as parents it is in our nature to have that sense of wanting to be in control or protective as some will call it. I held her hand and guided her back to the mat and sat her down, I decided to put her sandals back on and told her she was free to walk out into the grass, instead of going she laid back down next to me so I removed her sandals again. To my surprise she pulled herself up into a sitting position, stood up and went back into the grass even further this time smiling and going. Instantly I was reminded of the message I had listened to earlier in the morning by Dr. Wayne Dyer he said, “kids have a nature they know what to do “. He also said “trying to control leads to ruin allow your life to unfold. Meaning that we were not born with rules we were given a due date that was not a 100% accurate, but we came when we were ready, the ordained time for us to arrive freely.
Shortly after we went for a walk down by the fountain when we first arrived se’maya stood still she looked at the water coming from the fountain and observed it. Every second that went pass she moved a little closer taking baby steps and still observing, until she was standing directly in front of the water fountain. She slowly placed her hands on the wall enjoying the view and the feeling of water that blew lightly across her face, I was so amazed watching her enjoy this. They say we are here to teach our kids the way of life but I strongly believe that we were blessed with these amazing beings to learn from them, they are a reminder of how we all once were. A reminder that the way of life is not to operate in a safety net that we named fear but a powerful reminder that we were born to explore, create, and flow. I want to ask everyone reading today how many times in your adult life have you found your self being so afraid of taking risks and doing things you have never done before? How many times have we talked ourselves out of committing to something because of the fear of what we do not know or understand? Instead of taking baby steps, while taking the time to observe and learn something outside of what we already know, we allow what we already know and the things we have been taught to hold us back from truly experiencing life the way we were created to. Instead of being afraid this week and moving forward I want to encourage everyone to choose to take on doing something out of their comfort zone and committing to it without fearing the what if it does not work. Instead get curious about the what if it could and it does work and why not you be the one to make it happen. The next time you are faced with the choice of going out of your comfort zone or playing it safe I dear you to operate from a space of curiosity and strong faith that what we do not know cannot harm us, remember most of the times the things we avoid and scares us the most could be our purpose, that thing that changes your whole life for a greater purpose.
